What to expect
Bali blew my expectations. I once thought Bali was a meme of Bintang shirts, leather skin and filled with unironically loud drunk Aussies. I was so wrong, and I’m happy about that. If you pick your location, activities and timings right, you’ll manage to avoid the meme and truly get tunnel vision in this a food mecca. Not only is the local food absolutely palate quenching (average meal 3 euros with no holding back), but the upmarket food options are unbelievable (average meal 8-30 euros no holding back)
You cannot really walk around in most of Bali – I didn’t believe this when someone told me, but it’s true. Sidewalks rarely exist and when they do they become a scooter lane. The area is also deceptively large, so if you’re brave enough to walk (really I wouldn’t reccomend), give yourself some time.
